something for everyone!
| Hayrides and Barrel Train
Rides are Friday and Saturday nights throughout
the summer. Canary Beach Resort has been known to have
spontaneous movie nights if the weather prevents a
May 4-8th: Dock In
Weekend: On May 6th at 10am, we will be working with
guests to place docks and lifts into the lake.
Afterwards, there will be a Sloppy Joe Lunch in the
Fishing Opener: Lake Villard has some of the best
fishing in the spring when the water is still cool.
Anglers hook walleye, northern pike, bluegills, black
crappie, yellow perch and largemouth bass on Lake
Villard. Larger Walleyes are taken out early in the
May 25th-30th: Memorial
Weekend: On Sunday, May 28th Awake the Grapes,
Minnesota's most unique 5K & 10K races at Carlos Creek
Winery. Run through 160 acres of vines and treat
yourself to a glass of wine afterwards. Also, on May
28th, Ole Oppe Fest downtown Alexandria: Live music,
food, beer garden, wing competition and activities.
Villard Fire Departments hosts their annual Pancake
breakfast on Sunday with demonstrations of fire safety
Sawdust Savvy! Artists from Stillwater, MN will be
Hosting a Painting project on Sunday, June 4th in the
Event Center from 3:30-6:30pm. Participants must
register at http://www.sawdustsavvy.com/ Glenwood Lakes
Area Kids Day is on Saturday, June 3rd and includes:
Take a kid Fishing, Bike Rodeo, Demonstrations,
activities and lunch in the park! On June 4th, there is
also the Forada Street Dance from 8pm to midnight!
June 8-13th: Adopt a Highway! It is
important that we keep Minnesota and our 10,000 lakes
clean. Join us in picking up 2.5 miles of Highway 28.
Refreshments for those who help afterwards!
June 17-24th: Silent Auction! Thursday
and Friday, Veld Family Silent Auction, many homemade
items to bid on with proceeds going towards a charity.
Osakis Parade is on Sunday, June 25th from 1pm to 5pm.
June 24-July 1st: Beach Week! We
are known for our 1000 feet of sandy shoreline. Family
Sand Castle/Creation contest during the week. Kiddos,
come to the lodge during your stay and decorate your own
personal beach ball to keep! Villard Days are on June
July 1st - July 8th:
Independence week! Villard hosts several events during
the weekend, including a street dance, parade, breakfast
and more! On July 4th, there will be a Bike Parade
through the resort. Decorations are provided in the
Event Center for bikes, wagons, strollers and more! Golf
Scramble! Saturday the 8th, join other Canary guests at
Rodina Golf Course in the morning for our 4th annual
Golf Scramble. Sign-up sheet in lodge. July 8th:
10am-3pm Minnesota Lakes Classic Boat Show The 30th
annual Minnesota Lakes Classic Boat Show at Arrowwood
Resort and Conference Center will feature land and
in-water boat displays, food, music, boat fly-by,
awards, vendors, and much more! This event is free and
open to the public.
Rustic Painting! Laura Backhaus from Simply Rustic will
be here Thursday, evening, July 13th for a Rustic Paint
Project night! Please reserve your spot with her at
Frisbee! Catching flying disks has been a summertime
pastime for almost 80 years! Kiddos are welcome to come
to the lodge to color their own personal sized Frisbee
for a fun souvenir! July 12-15th Sinclair Lewis Days in
Sauk Centre (the Home of Nobel Prize winner Sinclair
Lewis), complete with fireworks, turtle races, parade,
car show, games/inflatables, street dance, vendors, kids
run, and more!
Bingo! Bring a wrapped White Elephant gift (one for each
player). Game will take place in the Event Center on
Friday evening of the 21st. All ages can play! Popcorn
and lemonade will be provided.
-29th: Ice Cream Social! You Scream! I Scream!
We all Scream for Ice Cream! Friday evening, all guests
may join us in the Event Center for ice cream and
toppings! Meet your neighbors and make new friends. 62nd
Waterama Festival in Glenwood July 25th to 30th. The
multiple day festival is located on the beautiful shores
of Lake Minnewaska and includes: 100-unit parade, kiddie
parade, water shows, pageants, dances, craft sales,
races contests, medallion hunt, Lighted Pontoon Parade
and fireworks. In Sauk Centre, the Steans County Fair is
scheduled from July 26 to 30th.
July 29-August 5th: Bird Lovers week!
Birds know that Canary Beach Resort is the place to be
during the summer! Discover the birds in the wildflowers
in front of the cabins. Each cabin guest has the
opportunity to make a homemade bird house or feeder.
July 29th and 30th, Art in the Park in Alexandria. It is
free and open to the public. Rain or shine! Fine art,
food, quality handmade crafts, entertainment,
demonstrations, and so much more! Pope County Fair
August 2-5th, highlights include: Demolition Derby,
games, rides, antique Tractor Pull, food and more!
August 5 -12th: Birthday Week! It’s
your birthday! Everyone has a special day, let’s
celebrate! All resort birthday party in the Event Center
on Friday evening, complete with a Piñata! August
11-12th Annual Starbuck Dragon Boat Festival
August 12-19th: Float Week! After a
long week of floating on the water and enjoying the
sandy beach, all guests may join us in the Event Center
on Friday evening for Root Beer Floats! August 17-20th,
Douglas County Fair.
August 19 -24th:
Nature Scavenger Hunt, come to the lodge for a
collection sheet and let the fun begin on Sunday
afternoon of the 20th!
Halloween in August on the 26th! Bring your costumes for
the whole family, decorate your cabin, camper or tent
and watch the goons and goblins come. Theme related
treat, stories, and movie in the Event Center
afterwards. August 26th 5k Scrub Run/Walk at the
Glenwood City Park. Also, Glenwood Yard Olympics and
Human Foosball Tournament at the Fair Grounds. Youth
Outdoor Activity Day on the Sunday, August 27th at the
Alexandria Shooting Park, completely free day with over
30 hands-on activities including archery, tomahawk
throwing, trap shooting, BB gun shooting, geocaching,
orienteering, bow fishing shooting, mock blood trail,
shoot/don't shoot course, outdoor cooking, fire
building, and shelter building.
27-September 1st: Boat Days! Free half day
pontoon rental with cabin stay.
1-5th: Labor Day Weekend! Potluck picnic for
all our guests on Sunday. We provide the meat, plates,
and utensils. Just bring a side dish, drinks for
yourself and enjoy! On Saturday, September 2nd the
seasonal guests will host a Craft/Vendor Show in the
Event Center from 10am to Noon.
September 7-11th: Family Weekend! Take
time to enjoy your family and the simple moments of life
with hayrides, barrel train rides, campfires, fishing
and relaxing! Moonshine Madness Day in Osakis on
Saturday, September 9th with Al Capone, Bonnie & Clyde,
Trolley Rides, live music, inflatables, street dance,
vendors, Panther Whiskey distillery tours and more.
September 15-17th: Rustic Painting!
Laura Backhaus from Simply Rustic will be here Saturday,
evening, September 16th for a Rustic Paint Project
night! Please reserve your spot with her or contact the
lodge. There is a fee for this activity. Grape Stomp!
Carlos Creek Grape Stomp, this three-day festival is
packed with excitement including 12 bands on 4 stages,
over 150 food, juried art and marketplace vendors, a man
cave featuring Schell's Brewery, wine tasting, and of
course Grape Stomping!!
21-25th: Model Boat Weekend! Bring your Model
boat and test/race it with Scott! One of his many
hobbies includes model boats.
28-October 1st: Dock out Weekend! Saturday at
10am, we’ll work together to take the resort dock and
lifts out of Lake Villard. There is a free Sloppy Joe
feed in the Event Center after dock work is completed.
October 19-22nd: MEA: Enjoy a quiet
final fall get-a-way, only eight cabins are available
year-round, so reserve one today! On October 21st,
Applefest is happening at Carlos Creek winery. This
family event includes: pumpkin craving, catapult pumpkin
throwing contests, horse drawn wagon rides, pie eating
contest, lawn games, live music, wine tours and tasting!
November 4-19th: Deer Hunting: With
the abundant deer population in Pope County, our lake
front cabins make for the perfect accommodations for any
deer hunter! There are several Walk-In Access sites in
both Pope County and Douglas County.
